160th Anniversary of Indian Settlers in South Africa.

Today as I make final edits to my memoirs, I am reminded of my forefathers who travelled from India to Africa to create a better life for their descendents.

To say travelled would be an understatement.


Waves of immigrants came to South Africa as indentured workers on steam ships.The second wave were called "passenger Indians" who came to Africa. They were the merchant class of people who came to set up trading posts and shops. they paid their own way to South Africa.

The final wave of our forefathers were brought to the Cape by the Dutch settlers. They brought in indian slaves from parts of India.
